Alan Goto is the representative for the Pacific Northwest, and he paddles a Kaimana. Raised in Kaneohe, Alan first began paddling for Mid-Pacific Institute's varsity outrigger team during the school year, and Lokahi Canoe Club in the summer. After high school, Alan moved to Washington State to attend college where he rowed for Western Washington University's crew team. In 1998, after a brief tour in the US Army, he returned to Seattle and began his career as a fireman with the Seattle Fire Department. It was in Seattle, that Alan became one of the first members, and the coach, for Seattle's Sail Sand Point Outrigger team.
Alan has most recently raced with Kailua Canoe Club, winning the first annual Big Boy Iron. He competes in one- and six-man races in Hawaii and on the mainland, and has won numerous Pacific Northwest championships.
